Oh Hello, Montreal...
That’s right… Montreal. Hopefully at the end of August so we can catch the film fest but if not then the beginning of September! Taking the train from Toronto to Montreal, and staying in hostels and B&B’s. It couldn’t be any better.
It seems August is going to be crammed full of shows and travelling. I’m heading down to Raleigh to see Jack Johnson play since I missed him here, then going to Radiohead, and a She & Him show in Columbus. All of which I’m very excited for! In other delightful news, my application for the 2008 Craftin Outlaws Fair was accepted!
I feel like this week is going to be amazing.
is living it up in europe right now. Gone for an entire month. I’m incredibly envious right now but I know she’s having an amazing time and I know that I’ll get something from this trip so it all equals out I suppose.
Tomorrow’s schedule:
- Go get desks from salvation for displays
- work on pins and sink into epoxy gunk.
- naturally enhance hair color…
- buy a new book!
- socialize
- draw and or paint
- start researching for the trip

This past week/weekend has been so crazy packed full of things I’m finally getting a chance to breathe! So onto the actual post that I promised three saturdays ago. (Whoops)
Vacation = Lovely.
Beach, pool, read, shower, eat, shop, pool, pier, sleep.
That was my schedule for 9 days and I loved every minute of it.
An hour into our first day there our car broke down so we had this beauty for a few days :
A Dodge Magnum which combined my love of station wagons and classy hollywood style. I cannot express how much I loved this car.
So much.
I was going to share some vacation pictures, but I kind of erased alot switching from lap top to lap top. I’ll try and find a way to restore them soon. Until then take a looksy here: www.Flickr.com/offthebeatenpath There’s a few photos from Hard Rock Park up but I still have a ton of things to upload.
I’m insanely anxious for this next week to get started! I submitted my application for the craftin outlaws show this year and being the procrastinator I am put it off til the second to last day. But thankfully I managed to have my payment and application in just in time. I’ll find out monday if I’m accepted (fingers crossed).
So a run down of the past few days/ week:
- Came up with a few new designs for totes, prints, and pins. (skeleton keys, anchors, sailboats, words and more)
- Ate at Thai 9. My favorite place to go as of late.
- Got to see some friends who I haven’t seen in awhile.
- Convetion(s)
- David came home for a visit. (Hi Dave)
- Got Gelatto from Dolcessa dowtown, they also have bubble tea now!
- Started reading Pride and Prejudice for the 12th time
- Garage / Estate sales where I scored an amazing vintage framed map, old inking supplies, and miniature russian dolls.
- Thrifting (salvation Army) I have my eye on some old school chairs with the desks attached in light teal, seaweed green and a peachy pink. I know I’ll need them sometime in the future, for what? I don’t know. But my heart is determined.
- Coffee and passion tea (almost every night) with these lovely ladies:
When I came home from my trip Gene Hackman was at Books & co. signing copies of Escape From Andersonville so I headed over to hear him take questions and what not. I think he’s so fascinating! I could listen to him talk for hours on end. The place was packed though so I couldnt really get a good shot, but for what it’s worth:
Okay, I’m calling it a night.
I feel like I’ve been gone for ages, and I’m beginning to like it! Breathing in the salty air and watching the tides set… I could do this forever. I’m getting darker too, no see through pale exterior anymore! The only downside to this trip is the sun poisoning. It’s not pleasant. Itchy and ouchy. I’ll give a full update when I get back home (Saturday). Lots and lots and lots of pictures will be up as well in a few days.
Ciao

My target scouting has yet again paid off.. I give you this necklace for example which I have so desperately wanted for about a month:
Original price: $16.99, 4 weeks of patience price: $4.28
edit: okay, so it broke while I was shopping today but I’m 100% sure it can be fixed. hey what do you expect for $4
It makes me think of this lovely movie:
I’ve been trying to jot down something everyday and put it together to inspire me whether it’s an excerpt from a conversation I overheard or a grocery list or even a list of feelings I have felt within a day. Along with scraps that I find around and color swatches.. I found the perfect little book to put them in at target the other day.
And for any coldplay fans with a (working) record player: I picked up the newest copy of NME and on the outside is a single 7″ vinyl of Violet Hill for a friendly price of $6.95! It sounds soo much better on vinyl as does everything else but it got me a little excited for their new album.
What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.
somewhere i have never travelled,
gladly beyond any experience, your eyes have their silence:
in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
or which i cannot touch because they are too near
your slightest look will easily unclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers,
you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens
(touching skilfully, mysteriously) her first rose
or if your wish be to close me, i and
my life will shut very beautifully ,suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
the snow carefully everywhere descending;
nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
the power of your intense fragility: whose texture
compels me with the color of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing
(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens;only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands
I’ve been on a reading frenzy for the past week, devouring books like crazy. I keep thinking I can save them back to read on the beach, but then I read a couple pages and can’t put them down.
Side note (or more of a reminder for myself): I can put in my application for the craftin outlaws show at the b.o.m.a. in two days!
Rumor has it.......
The Beach Boys will be coming around soon.. I’m thinking for childhood’s sake I should attend. I’ll just bring ear plugs for when they play Surfer Girl. This past week has been filled with many a sunburn that turns into a tan after two days. I’m finally a darker shade of pale! I’m preparing myself for a little trip to SC in two weeks, where I will be laying out everyday. Unfortunately I have to part with this little lady:
Who will be on a plane in less than 24 hours
Breane: I hope you have an amazing time with your internship and hopefully you’ll come visit every month week! And in two very short weeks I’ll be saying goodbye to this fella:
Who has gotten a job in North Carolina and will be moving very very very soon. Maybe it’s time for me to step somewhere outside this comfy little suburban dome as well. A little city never hurt anyone.

Whoops.
I’m really going to try and get better at this. I have a million hours in the day and yet I have the hardest time sitting down for ten minutes and writing something, let alone anything. Let’s start with an update. An awesome thanks to Jessie Cundiff for letting me share some totes and pins in her gallery!
Krafthaus gallery is on main street in Cincinnati, Ohio. If you’re around the area stop in!
I took a little time off to relax and headed to tennessee a couple weeks ago where I got to try my hand at zorbing. It’s the first one in the U.S., and definitely worth the money!
Friday, after four years of trying to make it to their shows and never succeeding, I finally made it to see Tegan and Sara. Such an amazing show, it just made me love them more! An horse opened and were fantastic. They have an ep of 5 songs on itunes right now for just $3.99. I bought it as soon as I came home and since then I’ve had “company” on repeat. It makes me want to cruise around screaming at the top of my lungs thinking maybe then everything would be okay.
Today seems like an Amelie day

Fall is almost here! Which most importantly means scarf weather is here! Who can’t find spiced apple cider, pumpkin pies, color changing leaves, hayrides, corn mazes, bonfires and sweater weather divine??? I had my first hot apple cider of the fall the other day and believe you me it tasted delicious.
here :http://www.yumiyumi.etsy.com/ . These are a few of my favorites
I also got some goodies from Curly Mcfreckle:
And a huge thanks to Whollycraft for feeding my obsession with deer/elk. I don’t think I could have gone on living if I hadn’t bought this ring. I lost it twice on the way home, fortunately it was found both times
Everyone have a great Monday!

Thanks so much for all the support! I was so thrilled to be on the front page of etsy! Unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to see it. A special thanks to Jessica Hood who featured my shop on her blog here :http://funkyfinds.blogspot.com/ . Jessica has devoted her whole site to featuring artists and their work, and she finds such great stuff! Another big thanks to Sarah Ridgley who featured my Flock O’ Birds pin here:http://fortheloveofbirds.blogspot.com/. A site dedicated to the birds! I seem to fall in love with everything she’s picked! And another thanks to K*Smith for featuring my totes in her treasury! You can see her artwork here:http://unconventionalida.etsy.com/. A few of my favorites are Edgar, Milton and Sara.. so cute!
As for whats new at the shop I’ll give a little preview:

I’ve also been busy with some new felt pins … featuring hedgehogs, and birds. Those should be up soon. More totes to come as well.
Everyone have a great Saturday!
